The SHEREC project leverages advanced robotics, data, and AI systems to transform the ship recycling industry, addressing critical risks such as worker injuries, fatalities, and environmental pollution. This innovative initiative brings together a consortium of 16 partners from 10 European countries—including leading universities, research institutes, companies, and a non-governmental organization—to develop cutting-edge solutions.
Key technological innovations include AI-powered drones for detecting hazardous materials, digital twin technology combined with AI for automated recycling planning, and two mobile robotic systems designed for cutting and paint removal. These technologies work in tandem to optimize ship dismantling processes, enhance worker safety, and ensure responsible environmental practices.
By integrating these solutions, SHEREC sets new standards in sustainable ship recycling, paving the way for improved industrial safety and environmental protection across the sector.
